Choosing plywood for the ceiling
Plywood for the ceiling is one of the most affordable materials for cladding. It has many advantages, such as low cost, lightness, and strength. But which plywood to choose?
Before starting to cover the ceiling, it is important to consider the thickness of the plywood sheet. Typically, plywood with a thickness of 4 to 9 mm is used for this purpose, although sometimes thicker sheets are needed (8-12 mm).
In addition to thickness, the quality of the plywood is also an important factor. One of the most common choices is FC plywood of grades 2/2, 2/3.
This choice is due to the high quality of this material. If you need a material with an attractive appearance, then plywood of grades 3/3 (CP/CP) is suitable, which can be veneered.
There are also various types of “decorated” plywood that can be used for ceiling finishing. If we choose the final finish of plywood with lacquer, grade 1/2 (B/BB) or 2/2 (BB/BB) is suitable.
If we choose the final finish of plywood with paint, grade 3/3 (CP/CP) is appropriate.
Ways to attach plywood to the ceiling:
- Directly by attaching with screws to the ceiling frame. This method is considered the simplest and fastest, but requires certain skills and tools.
- By attaching to battens (composite lattice), pre-mounted to the wall frame. In this case, insulation and vapor barrier film are placed between the battens, which allows for additional thermal and sound insulation of the room.
